People of Color Outdoors (POCO) Guardians is a nature education program that offers five-day sessions for children and families focused on the Smith & Bybee Wetlands and Whitaker Ponds. These areas, rich in wildlife such as northwestern pond turtles, western painted turtles, beavers, and many other species, hold important historical and cultural significance for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. POCO Guardians teaches participants about keystone species, native turtles, invasive species, and the vital role trees play in combating climate change. By engaging with local habitats, families gain hands-on knowledge and practical ways to support environmental stewardship and climate action in their communities
