The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) is a community science project that strives to collect information to monitor marine ecosystem health through the power of coastal community collaboration. COASST is made up of more than 1000 volunteers who regularly walk the beaches of Oregon, Washington, and California to collect data on dead seabirds. Data collected by volunteers have provided critical information informing our understanding of patterns in seabird mortality and helps alert scientists to seabird die offs.
