The Nehalem River Estuary COA (32 mi2) extends from Nehalem Bay upstream toward Aldervale to the north and Barnesdale to the south.  There are many important habitat features within eh COA for sensitive fish and wildlife species within Nehalem River / Nehalem Bay and in the associated riparian and upland habitats.  This COA is adjacent to the North Fork Nehalem River COA.

Special Features

General

  • Nehalem Bay State Park contains the 4-mile long Nehalem Spit, which contains critical sandy beach and tidal wetland habitat. Western Snowy Plovers have been observed attempting to nest along the Nehalem Spit State Park. This site is managed for Western Snowy Plovers through the Coastal Habitat Conservation Plan.
