Overview

  • Species Common Name Umpqua Chub
  • Species Scientific Name Oregonichthys kalawatseti
  • Federal Listing Status Species of Concern
  • State Listing Status Sensitive

Ecoregions

Special needs

Found in low gradient streams and rivers including sand- and gravel-substrate glides and pools, backwater sloughs and low velocity riffles. Closely associated with diverse in-water habitat, and are frequently found in and around boulders and instream vegetation.

Limiting factors

Restricted distribution (to Umpqua basin). Passage barriers. Channelization. Wetland drainage. Nonpoint source pollution. Culvert cleaning. Invasive species (predation).

Conservation actions

Reduce pollution. Restore flow. Reduce density of invasives in key habitat. Reintroductions useful at some sites. Limit nonpoint source pollution through Total Maximum Daily Load allocation process. Manage nonnative fish predation.
