The Sand Lake Area COA (13 mi2) extends from just south of Cape Lookout State Park down to Sand Lake. This COA is adjacent to the Netarts Bay COAs.

Special Features

General

  • The Sand Lake Estuary is a designated estuary of national importance.
  • This area has extensive dunes and high-quality tidal marshes.
  • Beltz Dike was a historic earthen dike located within the Stika Sedge State Natural Area.  OPRD is looking into breaching the dike and replacing it, with a goal to improve fish passage and restore tidal areas.
