The Nestucca Bay COA (34 mi2) extends from Nestucca Bay up the Nestucca River to Farmer Creek.  This area includes the river and associated riparian and upland habitats.  Nestucca Bay is important for migratory and wintering shorebirds and waterfowl and marine mammals.  This COA is adjacent to the Nestucca River Watershed and Salmon River Estuary-Cascade Head COAs.

General

  • Nestucca Bay is a Designated Conservation Estuary.
  • This area includes Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge (1,202 acres), which is the largest refuge within the Oregon Coastal Refuge Complex. Nestucca Bay Refuge provides important winter habitat for the formerly endangered Aleutian Cackling Goose and serves as an important overwintering site for Dusky Canada geese.
  • Nestucca Bay has historical nesting site for Western Snowy Plovers.
