The Crawfordsville Oak-Washburn Butte COA (17 mi2) eztends from northeast of Brownsville eastward to Hwy 228.  The area is primarily forested, covering the foothills north of the Calapooia River.  This COA is adjacent to the Calapooia River COA.

General

  • This area has important riparian habitat for sensitive bird species.
  • Area has important habitat for many oak-associated species including birds, amphibians, mammals, and plants.
  • Rock outcroppings support some of the last populations of western rattlesnake in the Willamette Valley.
  • The majority of this COA is small private parcels, which leads to potential threats from development. This makes partnerships with private landowners and partners particularly crucial in this area.
  • There are known mineral springs in this area, which are important habitat features providing trace minerals for band-tailed pigeons and other wildlife species.
